Flash fiction coming up in December 2021

We have some fantastic flash fiction lined up for December. Here’s a little taster to whet your appetite:

3 December 2021 – ‘Nothing Will Grow’ by Corey Miller:

My team of three dogs, roped and bonded, ride for speed on the solid block of ice that is now the Atlantic. They haven’t eaten in days, yet, they pull the kicksled across Ocean City, Virginia Beach, and Myrtle Beach, to plant possibilities. We departed my family’s barren farm to not be the end of the line. Although, weeks contemplating humanity’s discarded cigarette packs and frozen plastic bottles make me wonder if it isn’t time to let Mother Nature start anew.

10 December 2021 – ‘The things I found out about cats that made me face up to the truth about you’ by Amanda Saint:

The average cat’s hearing is at least five times keener than ours. Even so, it wasn’t that I couldn’t hear my friends when they told me all the reasons I shouldn’t get involved with you. I chose to ignore them. Lust is a powerful thing.

17 December 2021 – ‘Prepared’ by Ellie Rose McKee:

Inside the box, thousands of eyes from thousands of loose, faded photos stared out at her: her mother’s eyes from her first communion; her mother’s eyes on her mother’s wedding day, and Lynette’s wedding day; and her mother’s eyes as they sat on the beach, Lynette playing in the sand.

24 December 2021 – ‘A Segment from the Life of Dr Orange’ by Kate Tyte:

Our resident artist Mr Dadd has made hundreds of figures from tin and coloured paper for the attendants to decorate the asylum’s central hall. They are mysterious, beautiful things: pyramids; winged eyes and camels.

31 December 2021 – ‘Journey to Europe’ by Simon Christiansen:

You are in the Middle East, where you have lived for your entire life. For the last ten years, you have lived with your son. For the last three years, you have raised him alone. Global warming has caused the sea levels to rise, flooding huge areas of land, leading to refugees, war, disease, famine. You and your son scrounge for supplies during the day, avoiding the militias. Use a piece of paper to track your inventory. You possess one (1) son, some savings, and two (2) kidneys.

If you want to submit a flash for publication on our website, see our submissions page. We pay £10 for each piece published.
