Flash fiction coming up in July 2021

We have some fantastic flash fiction lined up for July. Here’s a little taster to whet your appetite:

2 July 2021 – ‘The Air Axe’ by Barry Charman:

The black booth was occupied. While he waited for it to be vacated he tried to untangle his thoughts. One party was an avid and articulate supporter of the Oxygen Tax, whereas the other fully endorsed the Air Axe. In all honesty these issues confused Stanley as much as they concerned him. It felt like something was slipping from his grasp, either way.

9 July 2021 – ‘Too Much’ by Rasmenia Massoud:

Every word Matt speaks is too much or not enough. Drea opens the door of her apartment at the end of the day and his dingy checkered Vans are dug into her couch cushion. The stagnant air reeks of burnt weed and cat piss. One of his dumb friends giggles from inside a smoke cloud. When they see her, Matt hands her the bong. She looks past him, at the pile of cat litter on the carpet, litter box overturned.

16 July 2021 – ‘Past-Miranda’ by Amber A. Logan:

I’m not sure when I started using the term ‘past-Miranda,’ but it made my daughter laugh so I kept it up. I’d blame past-Miranda for forgetting to reorder milk or neglecting to sync my iPhone 20X before bed. Only sometimes did I feel a twinge of guilt for blaming someone else, even if it was just an earlier version of me.

23 July 2021 – ‘A Personal History of Everything’ by Sean Murphy:

After a while he wouldn’t remember if it was because of boredom or exhaustion, or any combination of the things he’d tasted and witnessed and felt, or if it was all in his mind and therefore attributable entirely to his own volition, and he stood, sorrowful, on the shore of the widening world and said: Please.

30 July 2021 – ‘Linga-Longa’ by Tracey Stanley:

This Skegness holiday apartment is newly built on the site of the old Miner’s Convalescent Home. Men, old before their time, used to come here to stare at the sea, their lungs fizzing and crackling like batter when it hits hot oil.
