Flash fiction coming up in June 2021

We have some fantastic flash fiction lined up for June. Here’s a little taster to whet your appetite:

4 June 2021 – ‘Falling Down’ by Leah Mueller:

The cement radiated heat as Russ and I made our way towards the London Bridge. 117 degrees Fahrenheit in Lake Havasu, Arizona. The bridge had been moved from London to Arizona by an enterprising huckster fifty years beforehand. Now, it perched beside souvenir markets that sold jackalope postcards, engraved marble coasters, and tee-shirts emblazoned with garish cartoons.

11 June 2021 – ‘Plan A’ by Christine C. Heuner:

I’d just been to church to pray. My last visit was Christmas (it was April). I believed only a spiritual force could save me now. The priest had spoken of desire, the necessity of avoiding dark temptation, reaching instead for the light.

18 June 2021 – ‘The Paracosm Girl’ by L.A. Hawbaker:

‘Are you doing a game today?’ A trio of apple cheek faces approached Sadie, a fourth grader who sat alone on the swing set. A lank of hair hung loose from a ponytail slipped low and limp to her ear. Empty seats swayed beside her. She cocked her head at them, these three kids.

25 June 2021 – ‘There But For The Grace’ by Yvonne Clarke:

I smelled him before I saw him. Alcohol, nicotine, damp cardboard – and worse. Once upon a time, I would have shied like a skittish horse around people like this, avoiding eye contact, assuming that they got state aid and that what they did get was frittered away on booze, cigs and weed.
